Nikola Tesla in the year 1962 made a prediction about how a modern-day phone would be, and he was perfectly correct in his prediction. He had perfectly predicted the modern-day smartphones. But the one thing he might not have predicted is online learning.
Even a brilliant person some twenty years could not have predicted it.
But here we are, aren’t we?
“Online Learning”.
With online learning now becoming enormous, with all the schools opting to go the online way, owning to the pandemic, there is still a tremendous problem faced by the students.
– Managing their time correctly.
Even adults have a hard time managing time. So, it does not differ from the students who are finding it difficult too. So we all need some good tips to manage our time during online courses. I will try to provide the 5 most important time management tips for students.
I know that this may sound odd to you, but trust me. Setting up a separate dedicated place to study is an excellent way to manage time with online learning. Imagine that instead of setting up a dedicated space for study, you use the same space you use where you eat.
Do you know what would happen? Once you sit down for the online classes, you will start feeling hungry. That is how our brains are rewired. When you sit in the place you usually eat, you felt hungry.
If you sit at the place where you play your play station, you get in the mood to play. This would eat away your time, even before you know it.
Therefore you dedicate a place separately for your online learning to actually save more time.
The one thing that every teacher says to the students. Do not get distracted. Have you ever tried to clean your room, only to find some random photographs and you think of the time they were taken, totally forgetting that you were actually cleaning the room in the first place? Distraction is a powerful enemy.
If you sit down to learn something, you need to put all your concentration into that stuff, so that you can complete it faster and you can understand it better.
So the next time, you are starting a new lesson, put your phones in focus mode. Do not look at the phones, how tempting it may be. Also, do not forget to turn off the television. This will help you avoid getting distracted and helping you finish the topics on time.
Multitasking can decrease your productivity. Multi-tasking does not mean you are effective. It means that out of the one hour you are performing two to three tasks. It is effectively just splitting the hour to do two or three tasks, and at the end of the hour, all the tasks may remain incomplete.
You have probably heard of this proverb, A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. If you take a task, try to channel your full focus on that. It will help you finish the work much faster. Performing one task fully and completely is better than having three incomplete works.
So by all means, stop doing your assignments, while listening to a new lecture.
We all see cricket matches, don’t we? When the team chasing, is chasing a big score of saying a 350 in 50 overs, you can see that the players strategize and break down the total into small scores, as a 60 in the first ten overs, then a 140 in the next twenty overs, and then another 70 in the next ten overs and then an eighty in the final ten overs.
So if you have a big assignment due, with over 100 pages to write, try to divide those hundred pages into groups of twenty, and assign a time to complete each of those groups. This will reduce your stress, and you will also be able to manage your time effectively.
Why wake up early? Waking up early will provide you more time. You will not rush into things. Imagine waking up at 8.30 to be at some place, where you are expected to be there by 9? You will rush into your breakfast, or worse, skip it. You will drive your vehicle tensely, and at the end, even if you reach there at the correct time, you cannot concentrate properly for some time.
Waking up late increases your stress and decreases your productivity. But if you wake up early, you will have sufficient time for all the things you need to do, and you have that buffer time, an extra cushion where you can spend with your parents or kids.
With this, we explored the 5 Most Important Time Management Tips for Students. Let us use these tips to effectively manage the student’s time.
